About Us
The New Jersey Field Hockey Association (NJFHA) was established in 1927. It is an adult women’s field
hockey league that is open to players 18 years old (out of High School) and older. We currently offer
women the opportunity to play Fall, Winter & Spring seasons and some occasional Summer/Co-Ed
opportunities as well.
Meet Our Board
DEB DE LUCCA
PRESIDENT
I played field hockey at Kittatinny Regional High School. Had an amazing coach, Linda Crawn. Didn't play in college. Just started playing again in 2015 (almost 25 year break!). I have been on the board in charge of Public Relations from 2018-2022 and have been President since 2022-current. Looking forward to many more years!!
The best piece of field hockey advice I've ever been given is: The ball moves faster up the field by itself. PASS!!! ALSO, when you don't have the ball EVERYONE is playing defense.
If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve Field Hockey, cats, music and food.
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be: Eat as much as I wanted and stay in perfect shape.

STEPHANIE GROHOWSKI
VICE PRESIDENT
My name is Stephanie Grohowski and I have been with NJFHA for 11 years. I did not play college hockey because I enlisted in the army right out of high school at 18 years old and served for 8 years as a Military Police Sergeant.
I enjoy crocheting, spending time with my 5 dogs and hubby, and playing video games! I look forward to being the VP and we are excited for the future!

VICE PRESIDENT 2
How long have you been in NJFHA: since 2002
The best piece of field hockey advice I've ever been given is: don't play to not make mistakes.
If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve coffee.
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be reading.
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I'd be a writer when I grew up.

TREASURER
First question: How long have you been in NJFHA. 15 years. A million different locations - Kean, Montclair, Bernardsville, MBS, Drew, FDU... played in college and Amy Ottavinia brought me into the league. AMY COME BACK! It's a great group of women - the perfect balance of competitiveness and pressure!
The best piece of field hockey advice I've ever been given is don't argue with the refs. Once you've been a ref, you realize how hard it is. You respect the game more. If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve Christmas in the summer. I love Christmas and I love summer so I'd merge the two! I'm known to play some Christmas music while doing dishes in the middle of summer.
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be the ability to exercise in my sleep. I love working out but I also love sleep and sometimes it's hard to do it all.
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I'd be teacher when I grew up. Look at me now!

Hi everyone! I’ve been playing field hockey since I was about 9 years old. When my mom signed me up, I actually thought it was roller hockey, so I practiced roller skating in my driveway for a few weeks before she broke the news to me! I played field hockey all throughout high school, then played at the collegiate level at Mercy University (then it was Mercy College).
I graduated in 2020, and took a few years off of playing due to COVID. I have now been playing in NJFHA since 2022! I am so happy to have found a happy field hockey community!!

I’ve been with NJFHA and the Purple Squirrels since 2019. Before that, I played for Montclair State University. I teach first grade and coach high school field hockey at the varsity level.
Outside of field hockey, I love to snowboard, read on the beach, and spend time with my dog, friends, and family. My favorite field hockey quote comes from the club team that I played for, Total Dutch; “If we have the ball they can’t score”.
